Beware of Utility Scams!

Nationwide utility scams are on the rise and Atmos Energy recommends customers take the following steps to protect themselves from fraud.

Utility Impostor

  • Always ask for identification All Atmos Energy employees carry company ID badges displaying their name, photograph and Atmos Energy logo. If you suspect an impostor has arrived at your door, call us immediately at 1-888-286-6700 to verify the Atmos Energy employees identity or the work being done at your home. Do not allow the suspected impostor inside your home.
  • Customers who encounter a suspected utility impostor should notify their local police department immediately.
  • Beware of anyone asking for payment only in Kansas will Atmos Energy offer to collect cash at the time of service.

Email Scams

  • Atmos Energy has also seen an increase in customers contacted through email by scam artists trying to collect payments for natural gas service. The email scam, which portrays a bogus bill from Atmos Energy, is sent to customers, as well as people who are not customers, throughout the United States. The fraudulent billing message references a fake account number and contains links to fraudulent websites.
  • If you are an Atmos Energy customer who receives this email and the account number displayed in the email does not match your Atmos Energy account number or the email appears suspicious, please do not click on any hyperlinks. Instead, visit www.atmosenergy.com and log into your account to review your statement.

Telephone Scams

  • Telephone scams are also popular, where people pose as utility employees and demand immediate payment of past due balances. If you ever have concerns about the legitimacy of a call, please hang up and call Atmos Energy at 1-888-286-6700.
  • Atmos Energy does contact customers with past due balances by phone to offer payment options. However, Atmos Energy will verify account information before proceeding to take any payment.
